This is Corky. I used a Halloween theme for his page, since he was dressed for the occasion 365 days a year! *LOL* My sister had found him as a stray near her home and was going to take him in, but her cat wanted nothing to do with him. She had to keep in her shed all night because she was afraid Pandora (her cat) would hurt the little fellow. She conned my mom into letting me take him by saying she had a friend with a sick cat that needed looking after while she was away for a week, but Pandora wouldn't tolerate him, and requested that I look after him. When she showed up with him, my mom said, "This cat doesn't look sick. OK, what's going on?" Then my sister sprung it on her that she'd found him as a stray & he needed a home -- and we didn't have any animals at the time! Mom gave in. I would have liked to name him Scorcher, which is a name I got from a book called "The Little Witch" that I'd read as a little girl & loved -- there was a black cat with scorching yellow eyes named Scorcher in the story, just like this cat. But -- my sister said that if I kept him, I had to keep his name Corky. So...Corky it was! I can't remember how long we had him. When he was still a kitten, he disappeared one day. I was going to the beach with a friend the next day & was staying at her house overnight since we'd be leaving early. We went down to the corner store, and I found Corky in someone's yard on our way back. They "claimed" they found him, but I wasn't sure if I should believe them since I didn't think there was any way he would have walked that far in such a short amount of time. Luckily they let me bring him back home without making a fuss, and I asked my mom not to let him out of the house for the rest of the night! When he was an adult, he was hit by a car -- my uncle, who lived across the street, saw it happen; but saw him run into the cemetery. We weren't sure if he'd be alright. Several days later, the last Sunday in October when the kids were out trick-or-treating for candy, I heard meowing outside -- it was my Corky come home! Limping badly, but otherwise fine. We let him out one snowy February day, and never saw him again... Since I have several good photos of Corky to share, I set up a couple thumbnail galleries.
