This is Sunshine. His nicknames were Sunny, Sunnybunny, and Sunbun. He almost got the name of Sunset because of his dark orange coloring, but I thought that would be too odd a name. After losing Corky, my mom had said "no more animals" -- but she saw how lonely & miserable I was without a cat around, either that or she missed having one around herself! *LOL* A friend of hers had a cat who had kittens, so she let me go pick one out. Sunshine was in the window when we got to her house, as though he was watching for me. When my mom & I walked in, her friend had picked him up & put him on the floor -- he started walking towards me when we walked in, so I picked him up. He sat in my lap the whole time we were there, occasionally looking up at me. When my mom asked if that was the one I wanted, and I said, "I'd better take him, I think he's adopted me!" He wasn't with me long enough -- he was hit by a car & killed at only 3 years old. It was an October day, and I was home sick from work. I took a shower late in the afternoon, before supper. When I came out, I asked my mom where Sunshine was. She started crying as she told me, "Sunshine won't be coming home anymore" then told me that my uncle (who was living across the street) saw him get hit. I didn't want to believe her and had to go look out the window for myself -- and there he was, my poor baby, lying motionless on the side of the road... I spent the rest of the day/evening crying my eyes out. My father buried him in our back yard for me when he got home from work. I always felt responsible for what happened -- feeling like if I'd had him neutered, he wouldn't have roamed across the street the way he did -- but, it was just his time to go, as much as it hurt to lose him. I chose "You Are My Sunshine" for his page because I used to sing that to him all the time. For the longest time after he was killed, I couldn't hear that song without getting tears in my eyes. Since I have several good photos of Sunshine to share, I set up a few thumbnail galleries. Click one of the images below to visit Sunshine's Gallery.
